In the 1940s, while her husband is away at war, Grace, a devout young woman, raises her children alone. They live in an isolated mansion on the island of Jersey. Suffering from a strange affliction, the children are forbidden from coming into contact with daylight. They live as recluses in this house where strange and mandatory rules are enforced. Grace then hires a few servants to help her... but some of these unusual rules are broken. Things then take an unexpected turn, to say the least.
